As some of you already know and for those that don’t my mom was taken to the hospital by ambulance on Saturday and 8:30. She had just gotten home from work had supper with Rob (her boyfriend) and then went to sit down on the couch and relax. Just a few minutes after she sat down she started to have a seizure. Fortunately Rob had just taken a class that morning on what to do if someone was having a seizure. He immediately pulled her on the floor and blew a big breath into her mouth. She then started spitting up her dinner he rolled her onto her side and called 911. It took the ambulance about 5-7 minutes to get there and once they arrived they immediately started treating her. When she finally came to she was in the ambulance and was not sure why she was there or what had happened. Her blood pressure and heart rate were very high so they felt like they needed to take her to the nearest hospital. They rushed her to Dallas Regional Medical Center on Galloway. Rob jumped in his car and drove straight to Ronnie and Amanda’s house and told them what was going on. They then called me and Dad. Once Mom had gotten to the E.R. they were running some tests. She was very confused. About 9:30 she had another seizure. They were able to take the necessary measures to stop this one since she was in the E.R. They gave her some medicine at this point that made her sleep very hard for a good part of the night. They were able to get a CT of the brain and it came back negative no bleeds or spots on her brain. For obvious reasons they were keeping her overnight. She finally got transferred to a room about 1:30. The E.R. doctor said she would have a consult with a neurologist the next morning and also an MRI, MRA and an EEG. She did bite her tongue pretty badly when she had both seizures so now it is very swollen and sore. She is having a hard time eating and talking because of it.
Sunday morning she saw the neurologist about 11:30 and he did lots of tests with her like follow my finger, squeeze my hand, and different things like that. He said all those tests came back normal. He did say there were several restrictions she was going to be placed on for obvious reasons. 1. No driving for 6 months after a seizure. 2. No climbing ladders. 3. No getting on roofs. 4. No swimming unless with supervision. 5. No baths and if she is in the shower she needs to let someone know. These are just a few that I can remember off the top of my head. Also he wasn’t going to do the MRI, MRA, or the EEG till today because he likes to wait 24 hours after the last seizure to do the EEG because he feels he gets the best results. Since that would have been at 9:30 Sunday night he said it would be done on Monday some time along with the MRI and MRA. He did say that the best thing that could happen is that he won’t find a reason for this but it is very strange for a 56 year old woman that has never had a seizure to begin having them like this. Also since she had 2 on Saturday night her chances of having more have greatly increased. That if she would have only had the 1 it would have been better. She will be on anti-seizure medicine now probably for the remainder of her life.
Please keep her in your prayers and once I hear the results of her tests I will post again to let everyone know what they did/didn’t find. Thank you. If you would like to call her and give her some encouraging words let me know and I can get you her phone number.
